Placerville Events: January

Posted on Updated on

“Lots of people go mad in January. Not as many as in May, of course. Nor June. But January is your third most common month for madness.”
― Karen Joy Fowler, Sarah Canary

In an attempt to keep you at least partially sane this month I’ve scoured the local internet resources for fun events to look forward to. I have searched high and low, clicking, scrolling, double clicking, waiting for pages to load. It’s been a long haul, but you are worth it!

Before I reveal the fruits of my labor, don’t forget, if you are looking to buy or sell a home in El Dorado County then please consider calling me, John Conca, at 530-303-3494 so we can discuss your options. You can also browse my website and take advantage of some free, useful tools.

Now for the moment you’ve all been waiting for: my triumphant discovery of all the local events for the El Dorado County area for the long month of January.

Nothin’ But a Bunch of Robots

Not that there is anything wrong with robots. Who doesn’t love robots? It’s just an odd event to find on a real estate website. But it’s the truth. Save the Home & Garden shows and the fun outdoor activities for the later months. In January there are robots.

January 5th: Robotics Regional Qualifier Tournament

9am-5pmShutterstock robit

Norcal Regional FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Tech Robotics Competition is coming to El Dorado Hills. This event is free and open to the public.

This event takes place at Oak Ridge High School gymnasium, 1120 Harvard Way in El Dorado Hills.

  • At 9am competitors will be preparing for their events.
  • 10:30am will begin the competitions on the field.
  • 3-5pm Champions of the Tournament final competition.
  • FIRST Robotics Competition and FIRST Lego League demonstrations will take place throughout the day.

FIRST seems like an excellent program for ages 6 through adult to learn about technology, mathematics, science and teamwork. This is much better than building robots without leadership which can lead to this:

You can find more details for this great robit event on this flyer.

A Reminder

The Ice Skating Rink at the El Dorado County Fair Grounds, which I wrote about in December’s Events, will be closing on the 5th of January as well, so get out there if you haven’t already.
